"Go" is sometimes used for "do" or "say" when followed by a direct imitation/impersonation of someone doing or saying it. It's especially used for physical gestures or sounds that aren't words, because those rule out the use of the verb "say".

Rein both cases, we can sayToday's lesson (i.e. the subject of today's teaching) welches on the ethical dative. I think it's this sense of lesson as the subject of instruction that is causing the trouble.
